How To Prepare For Your Professional Head Shot
Drink plenty of water a few days prior and on the day of your headshot.
Get plenty of sleep the night before so you're rested.
Plan your outfit in advance.
Choose a professional suit or business-oriented outfit that has a classic look.
Dry clean or iron any wrinkles.
Stay away from bold, distracting patterns and tight grid patterns, unless layered with a plain blazer or sweater.
Only wear white when it is under a suit jacket, cardigan, or sweater.
Be sure to have any new haircuts or coloring done within one week prior.
V-necks accentuate the neckline and generally look best, but not too low;)
Stay away from short sleeves or tank tops unless it is a layered look with a jacket, cardigan or sweater.
For jewelry, go for something small, classic, and not flashy.
Simpler is always better. Be sure to bring any touch up make up.
Beards should be trimmed evenly with a groomed look.
For a clean-shaven look, shave before arriving at the portrait session.
Pick your favorite suit that fits well and is preferably a classic dark color like navy blue or gray.
Choose a suit that doesn't bunch up when you button it or if you sit down.
Ties look best when their tone lands between the suit and the shirt. For example, a light shirt, a dark suit, and a tie in a shade somewhere between them. Stay away from reflective, shiny, silk ties.
Make sure your undershirt beneath the button-down shirt is a v-neck or no undershirt at all.
